In recent months, Twitter has made a shift in its platform by trying to include monetization options . Its first move was the purchase of Revue, a platform designed to exploit paid subscription to newsletters. This purchase was followed by a statement of intent about  finding new ways for the social network to generate revenue . All as the basis for a new interface where content creators will have more ways to connect with their followers and, of course, generate income.


And now, after a period of testing, Twitter has finally officially launched Superfollow, which will be its first foray into the world of paid subscription and will include special content for the most loyal followers on the platform.

This is how Superfollow, Twitter's new subscription service, works
With Superfollow, which is currently only available in the United States and Canada, and for iOS users, content creators will be able to charge a monthly fee to followers who want to access exclusive content on the platform.

This will be an incentive for Twitter creators to contribute more actively with content on the social network, while also providing them with a tool to build their own community and establish more trust in the app while generating income.

As Twitter explains: “Through Superfollow, creators will be able to establish a monthly subscription of $2.99 ​​USD (€1.68), $4.99 USD (€4.20) and $9.99 USD (€8.41) to monetize extra content for their most engaged followers on Twitter. And followers get additional special access to your general tweets, previews, early access to content, and conversations only for subscribers of their favorite accounts.”

As for the division of profits, Twitter shared a demonstrative example of how fees could be divided based on different charges and considerations. In this example, if the Superfollow subscription is set at $4.99, Apple will keep $1.5, or 30% of the subscription established by Apple's terms of service. Additionally, Twitter will receive $0.10, as part of its processing fee, and the creator will get the remaining $3.39.


In this example we can see that Apple will keep a significant part of the fees , or at least that will happen on iOS, which for now is the only operating system where creators can integrate Superfollow, but despite this, creators could receive an important flow of money through your subscriptions. Once users sign up to become “Super Followers,” creators will have a new option to share their tweets: normal or exclusive to their members:

An extra level of exclusivity for the most loyal followers
This new feature adds an extra level of exclusivity on Twitter that will create a feeling of complicity that could become a key incentive for creators to form a closer community on the social network. According to Twitter, Superfollow content creators should focus on 4 basic principles :



Fun : That the creators start their day with passion, that they are happy with what they do, even though it is their source of income.
Closeness : Once they have been discovered, many creators seek a closer relationship with their fans, more intimate and with mutual engagement.
Fame – Some will want as large an audience as possible, which is easier said than done. They know that what is trending today will not be trending tomorrow, so they must do everything possible to keep their fans coming back for more every day.
Funds : Many creators see money as an end, a way to focus on their full-time career. Opportunities to earn income can focus them on how they prioritize platforms.
At its launch stage, Superfollow is limited to a small group of creators who must meet the following criteria :

Profiles must have 10,000 followers or more.
The creator must be at least 18 years old.
Additionally, you must have tweeted at least 25 times in the last 30 days.
The account must be at least 3 months old.
For now, Superfollow is available to users in the United States and Canada, although it is expected to expand globally soon.
Each applicant must follow Twitter's policies , which will disqualify accounts that have had suspensions in the past. If the account qualifies, they will soon be able to earn through Superfollow, and for those who are not invited yet, they can sign up for the waiting list.

Superfollow could fulfill the dream of many influencers on Twitter: getting paid for something they already do anyway and with pleasure, however, Superfollow could be more challenging than many suspect since sharing special paid content will require specific planning and strategy that manages to guarantee offering the greatest value to its paying customers, without taking into account that it will also remain to be seen how many users will actually have (and maintain) a long-term subscription.
